UX Designer (12 months FTC)

Salary Details:
About The Role

If you're passionate about creating user-centred and engaging digital experiences that elevate the unique Ecotricity brand, then this could be the opportunity for you!

This role is about shaping and delivering coherent end-to-end experiences across our websites, apps and other digital tools. In this role, you should identify user needs and opportunities for innovation and improvement for our digital platforms across the business. Other responsibilities include developing digital products through creation of wireframes and prototypes and conducting user research and usability testing. You will collaborate with other designers and developers to create intuitive, user friendly products.

With an established and engaged customer base, we have a great product to sell to those who know we do the right thing as well as helping others who are ready to make their energy and sustainability impact. We are innovative, fast paced, and just plain different, with a strong commitment to our customers and their needs.

What you will do…

  • Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders across the business to understand and interpret requirements for changes or improvements to our digital platforms.
  • Identify opportunities on our websites, app and other digital assets for improvements and new features that benefit the user’s experience.  This could be about improving our conversion rates to encourage new customers, or just as importantly improving ease-of-use for existing customers who are already with us (driving up satisfaction and driving down cost-to-serve).  Some work may also be about improving the employee experience.
  • Facilitate discovery workshops to capture and define a project’s scope and ambition.
  • Conduct research such as interviews to determine customer needs.
  • Develop a range of creative conceptual ideas for projects that bring simplicity, usability and accessibility to complex user experience problems.
  • Formulate information architecture, site maps, and user flows to build an understanding and alignment across the team and stakeholders.
  • Create storyboards or sketches to visualise and bring your UX solutions to life.
  • Create interactive models and prototypes using Sketch, UXPin, InVision, etc. to simulate functionality.
  • Validate ideas and designs through face-to-face usability testing and then iterate using the findings to refine the solution.
  • Present UX solutions internally to the team and project stakeholders and justify the rationale behind UX decisions.

Most of the focus of the UX Designer is associated with our Ecotricity energy and Ecotalk telecoms products, although some support for our other businesses (such as Sky Diamonds, Devil’s Kitchen or Forest Green Rovers) is also part of the role.

About You

As a UX Designer, you will be passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences and inspiring others to follow suit. You’ll be passionate about gathering and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data. By balancing a design ethos based on empathy with technical constraints, you will aim to create seamless customer journeys.

You’ll be keen to learn about the different parts of the business, working harmoniously with colleagues to help improve customer facing experiences. A repertoire of UX methodologies and frameworks such as customer journey mapping is needed and being able to communicate these in an engaging way to stakeholders is essential.

You may currently be in a business or a role where you feel “hemmed in” by the corporate domain and want to be somewhere that acts and feels different, where you can deliver your best ideas as part of a small mission-led team.

Ultimately, you’ll be seeking a role where you can have a direct impact on both business growth and the wider environment, while also developing your skills and experience.

The detail about you…

  • A degree in UX Design, Industrial/Product design, computer science or related field.
  • Confident user of design tools (Adobe CC, Sketch, Invision, UXPin).
  • Experience of designing web-based and app-based products and services.
  • Experience of working directly with users and understanding their psychology and behaviour.
  • A 'can do' attitude and the ability to work seamlessly with other areas by building internal relationships.

  • A commitment and passion for sustainability and saving the planet.

Flexibility statement

The fast moving nature of the company's business means that from time to time you may be asked to perform duties or tasks outside of your original job description on an ad hoc basis. This allows the company to use it's people in the best possible way at all times and helps the employees to make make their contribution in a changing environment.

Ecotricity is Britain's greenest energy company. When we started back in 1995, we were the first company in the world to provide a new kind of electricity- the green kind.

Our mission was, and remains, to change the way energy is made and used in Britain- by replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy.

We don't just supply green energy, we use the money from our customers' bills to make it ourselves too- we build windmills and sun parks in Britain. We call this 'bills in to mills'. In 2021, we started work on building two new solar parks, and now, in 2022, we're bringing geothermal energy to our customers' fuel mix, a first in the UK. We're also developing green gas mills which will generate 100% green gas from a source that we will never run out of- grass.

We don't just focus on energy though- we built Electric Highways, Britain's leading network of electric vehicle charging points, we helped Forest Green Rovers become the greenest football club in the world, and, in partnership with RSPB, we launched Britain's greenest mobile phone service, Ecotalk + RSPB.

Ecotricity is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to providing equality for all.
