Electric Highway Engineer

About The Role

The Operations and Maintenance Department carries out all corrective and preventative maintenance on Ecotricity’s entire portfolio of Electric Highway charge points, which covers the whole of the UK. It is a dynamic department providing opportunities to learn and develop new skills.  

The main purpose of the role is to ensure the Electric Highway charge points are maintained to a high standard ensuring that outstanding availability is achieved.

This role is very varied, challenging, rewarding and requires good communication and excellent organisational skills.

Due to the location of the charging units, nationwide travel will be required and you may be away from base from Monday to Thursday on a regular basis.  Your normal working week will be 41.5 hours but flexible working may be required.

Please note -We will also consider a trainee with relevant qualifications (min NVQ level 3 or BTEC in electrical/electronic engineering

What will you do?

  • Carry out preventative maintenance of all Electric Highway charge points
  • Corrective maintenance / fault finding

  • Ensure charge points operational integrity & safety are maintained to the highest standards 

  • Recondition / refurbishment of charging point components if possible

  • Assist in the organisation of plan & corrective works

  • To organise materials ready for preventative and corrective maintenance.

  • Carryout checks to verify stock levels for re-ordering are accurate and appropriate

  • Ensure locations are always left clean and tidy, with correct signage and units kept clean and functioning as they should

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of themselves and their colleagues
  • Carry out the required Health and Safety checks to ensure a safe working environment

  • Participate in training courses (particularly important for a trainee to the role)

  • Maintain their knowledge of the Company H&S File

  • Responsible for the safe condition and operation of Company Vehicles

  • Responsible for the safe condition and operation of Company Equipment

About You
  • Ability to work independently with remote management, and take responsibility for project delivery

  • A good knowledge and recognition of electrical components is essential.

  • A full, clean driving license.

  • Computer literate

  • Methodical and ensure operating procedures are enforced on all levels

  • Well organized and focused on service delivery

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Meticulous

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and multitask

  • Self-motivated and ambitious

  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines without compromising safety or quality

  • Strong communication skills particularly verbal communication

  • Accuracy, Tenacity & Integrity

  • High level of aptitude towards technology and process development

  • Ability to understand technical diagrams

  • Experience in an electrical/technical role is preferred but not essential as a trainee role could be offered
