Transactional Finance Manager

About The Role

As part of the Group Finance function, this role will report into the Head of Finance and play an important part in the finance leadership team.  The role will be responsible for the purchase ledger and customer payment processing function of the Ecotricity Group.  The role requires a leader who can manage and coach the team on the day to day transactional activities and support in the transformation of the finance team, processes and systems.

Core Responsibilities

The core responsibilities include:

  • Day to day management of the purchase ledger and customer payment processing teams and processes.
  • Completeness and accuracy of the financial ledgers.
  • Introduction and ongoing reporting of key performance indicators (KPI’s)
  • Continue to review, design and implement efficient and effective process enhancements.
  • Support the implementation of new financial system across the ledgers (Including P2P process)
  • Responsibility for the production of management information as required, including aged creditor reports, aged debtor reports and purchasing information.
  • Responsibility for prompt collection of amounts owed to Group companies where applicable.
  • Review options for cashflow opportunities and levers across accounts payable and collections.
  • Preparation of audit information as required.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that all financial records are accurate and complete, and maintained in accordance with relevant company, external audit and legislative requirements.
  • Responsibility for internal audit checks to ensure compliance with all internal, external and legislative requirements.
  • Take the lead in projects involving the AP and AR functions.
  • Manage and develop a team of 20-25 people (all onshore in one location)
  • Work closely with the internal audit function to document and, where required, implement procedures and control in the Transaction Services area of responsibility
  • Additional controller duties as necessary
  • Act as a point of escalation for queries and complaints which cannot be resolved by team members.  Understand customer service expectations and business requirements to resolve proactively and in a timely manner.
  • This is a very responsible role which will involve the handling of sensitive financial data and so requires someone who can show sensitivity and discretion.
About You

Essential Skills & Expertise

  • Significant experience of managing teams, particularly large teams of processing staff.
  • Experience of managing and supervising purchase ledger and payment processing functions.
  • Experienced in setting smart objectives, delivering to the required level of SLA and KPIs to deliver business goals
  • An analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to give clear and concise instructions/guidance and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Demonstrable reconciliation and report preparation experience.
  • Highly computer literate, and able to use various computer packages to support overall objectives
  • Track record of achievements and of building positive working relationships, supported by excellent communication skills (written, spoken, presentation)
  • Experience of delivering fit for purpose reports and advice to senior management.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to rapidly interpret, concisely explain and act on complex information.
  • Change management experience for systems, teams, process and controls.
  • A qualified accountant.

Desirable (but not essential) Skills & Expertise

  • Utilities sector
  • Experience in using SAP and Workday would be an advantage.
