Data Operations Lead

About The Role
This is a new position within the Data Engineering team. It is a fundamental part of our move from an on-premise SQL architecture to a modern cloud-based architecture with maximum data automation to enable data science.
About You
You will have a passion for developing data solutions, open source software and cloud services.Handling data in any format, file, database, structured or unstructured will come naturally to you. You will have an instinctive sense of how data is related and structured and how to store data to best serve its use.

What you will do

*  You will Automate as many stages of the data flow as possible including BI, data science, and analytics, improving the quality of data and reducing the development cycle time. You will establish governance discipline, with a particular focus on two-way data control, data ownership, transparency, and comprehensive data lineage tracking through the entire workflow, establishing progress and performance measurements at every stage of the data flow.  

*  You will work with engineers building data pipelines using modern development techniques using Python, Spark and SQL. Data will be extracted from and loaded to on-premise SQL, API or our Cloud Data Lake. The data pipelines will be deployed and executed on AWS or on-premise servers. You will empower the engineers to develop in an agile way owning their code from inception to going live. 

*  Our technology stack includesPython, AWS Glue, AWS S3, AWS CloudWatch, Jupyter, BitBucket, Azure Devops, Microsoft SQL, RedGate Change Automation.

Our mission was and remains to change the way energy is made and used – after introducing green electricity to the world, we introduced green gas to Britain in 2010 too.
