Senior Management Accountant - Energy

£40,000 - £50,000 DOE

About The Role

As part of the Group Finance function, the role will report into the Group Financial Controller. Responsible for the renewable energy subsidiaries, the role will work closely with the business to drive best accounting practice and accurate, timely reporting.

This role supports the Financial Controller in the preparation of management and statutory accounts, regulatory returns, lender compliance and statutory tax returns.

Core Responsibilities

  • Monthly financial preparation of the P&L, BS & Cashflows for the Retail energy business
  • Design and report on key performance indicators both financial and operational, working closely with FP&A team
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including our Energy Trading team
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the direct and indirect costs associated with running the subsidiaries under your role
  • Preparation of statutory accounts, tax and other returns, such as the preparation of CT packs, VAT returns, BEIS, OFGEM and ONS reporting
  • Ensuring the organisation’s financial assets are monitored, reported and reviewed.Maintain fixed asset register, including capitalisation and depreciation for your subsidiaries.
  • Support the key transformation of the finance system and identify opportunities to future proof our process and controls
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls in your area
  • Involvement in other adhoc projects as required
About You

Essential Skills & Expertise

  • Energy sector experience is essential
  • Fully qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA etc)
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office suite, in particular Excel modelling tools
  • Leadership and management skills to grow and develop Trainee Accountant
  • Initiative to identify opportunities to drive process improvement

Desirable (but not essential) Skills & Expertise

  • Advanced data skills: SQL, VBA etc.
  • Hands on experience of Revenue Recognition for retail energy
  • ERP systems knowledge: SAP, Workday

  • Ability to cope with rapid changes in work schedules and manage workload
