About The Role

We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our rapidly expanding, and award-winning business sales team.

This is a field based business development and account management role, often engaging at a senior level. The focus will be on the acquisition and renewal of large, strategic opportunities, for both Energy and our Made to Measure solutions, which includes our Merchant Wind Portfolio, Virtual Powerplant, FiT’s and PPA’s.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for supporting the growth of Ecotricity’s client base and building long term relationships – focusing on a value proposition and introducing new products and services where appropriate.

The Business Development Manager will work with internal stakeholders such as marketing, PR, trading, and planning departments to attract new business alongside positioning the additional company assets.

The Business Development Manager will also work closely with our credit and finance departments, as well as our operational and front-line customer service teams, to make sure our cash and debt position is always considered with every large opportunity, as well as making sure we can manage the portfolio from a customer service perspective.

This role is very varied, challenging, rewarding and requires good communication and organisational skills.

What you will do:

  • Deliver agreed individual and team targets in line with overall B2B and Made to Measure plans,
  • Build strong relationships with the customer – with face to face meetings and full tender and proposition responses
  • Self-generate opportunities in the large business market via effective networking
  • Proactively assess, clarify, and validate the customers sales needs on an ongoing basis
  • Coordinate the involvement of company personnel, including support, service, and management resources, in order to meet account performance objectives and customers’ expectations – constructing formal bid proposals where required
  • Provide quotations, from the initial tender, through the negotiation and acceptance stages
  • Describe energy market information to help the customer make a more informed decision – this could include flexible purchasing options
  • Lead role in developing existing as well as supporting the launch of new products and energy services with the client – which will often be complex
  • Work with other departments to cross promote the company brand, products and partnership opportunities – taking any opportunity to cross-sell
  • Act as the primary liaison for customers when required up to a senior level
  • Develop and implement new ideas when approaching a new client base
  • Management of overall pipeline activity for channel
  • Provide support on escalations – appropriately raising with senior management where required
  • Host weekly meetings with channel representatives to discuss progression
  • Support back-office in providing aftersales support and customer care
  • Play lead role in on / off-site client meetings and events when required
  • Any ad-hoc tasks as requested by the Senior Business Growth Manager
  • Various standard and ad-hoc reporting (including providing detail on all KPI’s to SBGM upon request)

What you will bring

Knowledge, skills and experience:

Educational Requirements:

  • Educated to A-Level or above,
  • Math’s & English GCSE’s essential

Knowledge Required:

  • Excellent understanding of energy industry
  • Strong skill level in Excel, PowerPoint SAP or similar CRM
  • Good computer literacy including Microsoft Office Packages

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with ability to communicate to a senior level of stakeholder
  • Analytical ability to assess and interpret data and identify opportunities
  • Ability to develop relationships and leverage added value from them – often with senior stakeholders

About Us
 Ecotricity is the greenest energy company in Britain. In fact, when we started back in 1995, we were the first green electricity company in the world.

Our mission was and remains to change the way energy is made and used – after introducing green electricity to the world, we introduced green gas to Britain in 2010 too.
